Introverts
It is one of the most famous personality stereotyping ever. If you are an introvert, you may like being in a quiet company, find it uncomfortable in noisy crowds or party, you don’t talk much and like to spend some time alone. Contrary to extrovert who found themselves enjoying such a big crowd or noisy party, prefer to go and hang out with friends, always looking energetic. The truth is, it a a wide spectrum, with extrovert and introvert on each end. It is hard to say whether a person is a true extrovert or introvert as you may be both or tend to slip in the other side of the spectrum. Since introverts are mostly misunderstood, we should look how they behave and act.
Truths of introverts
I’m an introvert myself, and I always find it’s hard to make people understand. People will tend to think I am shy when in fact you just want to be in a quiet company and find there is nothing interesting to talk about. Here are some of the “truths” of introverts:
Reading alone is quite enjoyable |
1. We are not shy
You may find introverts are hard to talk to. It is a nightmare for them to be in a large party of strangers. But we are not shy, we just like to be with people who are close to us. This will make it far more comfortable to us.
2. We like to talk, we just don’t know what to talk about
Introverts are objective-orientated people. They don’t something for the sake of just doing it. If there is no purpose in communicating then we will find it uninteresting. So if you want to talk to an introvert, just pop up and talk, they will appreciate it really much. Bring up interesting topics in conversation and you will found out that we, introverts, sometimes can talk for hours passionately about that topic.
Introvert have quite of imagination |
3. We love people, just not hundreds of them at a time.
The truth is we love people. We love people more than extroverts. You may find that most introverts have a few friends, but I bet that they are the closest a friendship could ever be. Introverts love people, it just we like to channel those love and energy to just a bunch of people. That is why a friendship with introverts will have a deep meaning as introverts will give much time and attention into it.
4. We are not boring, even though we do boring stuffs.
I found joy in sitting at home reading books, watching my favourite shows and sometimes take a stroll in the park. I can’t tell you how much fun that was. We, introverts are sensitive to dopamine, a neurotransmitter in our brain, which makes us less of a adrenaline seeker. We just like to sit back, enjoying our self, listening to music and sometimes have an adventure, in our mind.
What a bunch of nerds
Actor-comedian Steve Martin is an introvert |
It is the greatest misconception of introverts. Most artists, writers, and even some singers and celebrities are introverts. Being an introvert just affect the way we think, even to certain degree affecting our behaviors, but regardless we like to be wild and have fun just like extroverts. Okay,I admit, maybe not that fun.
It’s not just a mindset, we can’t magically change to extroverts.
Admit it, there are a lot of type of people in this world. These varieties make the world colorful and beautiful as it is. If everyone wants to be an extrovert, this world would has less of less artists, scientist, writers, philosophers, filmmakers, poets, mathematicians and many others. We like the way we are. There is nothing wrong being an introvert. It just the way our brain functions and the truth is, I kinda like the way it’s functioning.
